DIY: Silk Scarves Edition

 

Japan is famous for its handicraft culture. They creatively turn simple items into art. One of those examples is Furoshiki. Furoshiki is a type of traditional Japanese cloth that is used to wrap gifts and transport items and goods.
Inspired by this Japanese wrapping technique, here are 5 different ways to turn your silk scarf into the perfect wrapping cloth.

Otsukai Tsutsumi お使い包み  - Box wrapping 1

1. Place a box in the center of the silk scarf.
2. Pick up the bottom corner of the scarf and cover the box with it.
3. Do the same with the top corner.
4. Make a knot with the left and right corners.
5. In the end, the end from the top corner should be folded underneath of the box.
 

Ottsu Tsutsumi 四つ包み - Box wrapping 2

1. Place a box in the center of the silk scarf
2. Pick up left and right corners of the scarf, and make a knot.
3. Turn the box.
4. Pick up left and right corners of Furoshiki, and make another knot.
5. Open and fix the ends of Furoshiki like flower petals.

Futatsu Musubi (二つ結び) - Box wrapping 3

1. Place a long and slender box in the center of the silk scarf.
2. Pick up the top and bottom corners of the scarf and cross them in the center towards the opposite ways.
3. Switch the hands to hold the crossed corner facing toward top, and make a knot with the left corner.
4. Do the same with the right corner and the other crossed corner facing toward bottom.
5. In the end, fix up the knot to cover the box completely.

Bin Tsutsumi 瓶包み - Wine Bottle wrapping

1. Place a wine bottle upright in the center of the silk scarf.
2. Pick up the top corner of the scarf and cover the top of the bottle with it, and do the same with the bottom corner.
3. Fix the scarf at the neck of the bottle with an elastic band.
4. Pick up the left and right corners of the scarf, cross them at
5. Lay the bottle down on the table and make a knot in the front.
6. In the end, stand the bottle again, fix the ends of scarf like flower petals, and take off the elastic band.

Bin Tsutsumi 瓶包み - 2 Wine Bottles wrapping

1. Place 2 bottles in the center of the silk scarf, and lay them down towards the opposite sides.
2. Pick up the bottom corner of the scarf and place it a little below of the top corner, while covering those bottles.
3. Then, roll those bottles towards the top until top corner of the the scarf becomes very small.
4. Pick up and fold the top corner, and make one of the bottles stand up.
5. And make the other bottle stand up as well.
6. In the end, make a knot with those ends of the scarf.
